Good sleep is known to have positive physical and mental health benefits. However, it still remains one of the most overlooked factors when it comes to good health. Surprisingly, a major part of the Indian population also finds it challenging to fall asleep naturally.
Here are a few known hacks to induce a peaceful sleep:
1. Start with an active day
If you want to have a peaceful sleep at night, you must start with a physically active day. You have to figure out what stimulates you. It can be a jog, a walk, cardio or a yoga session.
2. Maintain a fixed bedtime
Ensure you have a fixed bedtime every day. Though it is not the easiest thing to do, if achieved, it helps to lull the body into sleep at the same time every day.
3. Say no to screens
It is advised not to use gadgets or watch television for at least 30 minutes before bedtime. The screens emit blue lights that deter the release of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone.
4. Change your old mattresses
Most of us have the tendency of using old and worn out mattresses without any regrets. We need to realize that the mattress we use has a direct relation with the quality of sleep we get. So chuck that old mattress at the right time!
5. Invest in a good quality mattress
It does not just end at changing your old mattress at the right time. It is equally important to invest in a good quality mattress. Since most of the months in India are warm and humid, investing in a mattress with cooling gel technology is the wisest thing to do.
6. Avoid long naps during the day
You do not require a sleep expert to tell you this! Avoid long, comforting naps in the afternoon so you feel tired by the end of the day and long for a good sleep at night.
7. Eat a light dinner timely
What you eat for dinner and when you eat it will directly affect your sleep. So make sure that you eat a low-carb and a high-fat meal and finish it at least two hours before your bedtime.
8. Avoid caffeine in any form
Avoid caffeine in any form since it can hinder a peaceful sleep. What you can do instead is to sip on herbal tea with known health benefits. Chamomile tea is known to induce good sleep.
9. Use soothing music
Using the right kind of music is known to soothe senses and bring better sleep. There are several applications dedicated to the cause. Just play your kind of music and give in to the pleasure.
10. Block out sound and light
Make ways to block out any kind of unwanted, loud sound or harsh light. Use dark curtains, blinds, ear muffs or other products for the same.
